Patrick Stewart, veteran science fiction actor, was knighted by the Queen. Prince Charles, long time classic Trek fan, may have been part of the reason that Mr. Stewart picked up the knighthood although the Prince's feelings on Star Trek: The Next Generation aren't known. We likely think that it is the combination of the fame he received as a result of Star Trek, as well as all of the other acting and theatre he has done that got him this honor.
Recently, Sir Stewart spoke with BBC, This Morning where he stated that in the last six years, he has been affored numerous opportunities for acting, and that he's gotten many mor than he could ever have imagined.
Patrick Stewart also starred in Dune as Gurney Halleck giving a good performance that helped first bring that classic to the screen. He also spent many years perpetuating the ideas espoused by Star Trek: peace, tolerance and understanding off all beings giving respect for differences. In these times, the idea of diversity, tolerance and peace are both necessary and should be respected where found.
We at the Science Fiction Buzz congratulate Mr. Stewart for being knighted, and for whatever reason he received that honor, it is well deserved and just plain cool.
